Why do we live with a fear that someone will tap into our resources for all the wrong reasons? When sensitive information is being processed then it is understandable, but when it’s just our everyday chores, why are we so petty? There is no way to completely prepare yourself for the changes and challenges that college will bring to your life. However, here are five things you can do to make the transition go a little smoother.
1. Make sure you learn how to do laundry.

2. Live away from home.
Starting college is challenging enough. Don’t add your first bout of separation anxiety to the mix. Many organizations offer high school summer study abroad programs. If you don’t want to leave the country, consider domestic educational programs or summer volunteer opportunities. Groups like National Student Leadership Conferences offer a range of opportunities for high school students to spend the summer on college campuses to work on social issues or educational projects.
3. Develop interests.
As you have probably been told, colleges like well-rounded applicants. More importantly, other people like well-rounded people. And while you may initially bond with someone over a shared love of vampire movies, eventually, you’ll need to bring more to the party. Head to college with the ability to participate in a few different types of activities that you can do with other people.
4. Visualize your future.
